How Pay Online Securely works
Seller lists an item for sale
A seller lists their item and activates Pay Online Securely with shipping via Pargo or collection. Items valued between R50 - R20,000 are eligible.
Buyer purchases the item
The buyer discovers a listing they love, chooses how they want to get the item (shipping via Pargo or collection), and securely completes the payment using our trusted payment partner.
Gumtree keeps the money safe
The money is held safely by Gumtree until the transaction is completed.
Item is on its way
If shipping is selected, the parcel gets dropped off at one of the +4000 Pargo drop-off points. Pargo delivers it to the buyer's chosen location without ever sharing the location or buyer details with the seller.
Item is received
The parcel arrives at the buyer's designated Pargo pick-up point, or the location arranged with the seller, they collect it and have 24 hours to raise any disputes.
Seller receives payment
If no dispute is raised within the 24-hour window period, the money is released to the seller's Gumtree Wallet. Sellers can withdraw from the wallet to their bank account.

Seller receives payment
If no dispute is raised within the 24-hour window period, the money is released to the seller's Gumtree Wallet. Sellers can withdraw from the wallet to their bank account.

When the item arrives, the buyer collects it, and both parties receive confirmation that the delivery is complete.
At checkout, the buyer chooses collection. They pay and the money is held by Gumtree. The buyer and seller arrange to meet for the item to be handed over.
